I was given the “Suaoki Aluminium Monitor Stand” to try. Check my disclaimer here.
Living in a small flat, usable working space is at a premium. Couches and Tables do double duty as Office chair and Workstation. I do have a small PC desk which I try to use. But once you have a lamp, my laptop, laptop cooler, mouse, keyboard and assorted cables and USB and Portable drives sitting on the desk, things get very cramped very quickly. So anything that gives me a few more square inches of room is very welcomed.
The packaging is quite adequate. Simple clean white box with a line diagram of the stand and the Suaoki logo. The stand is in an expanded foam insert keeping it very well protected during transport. When you open the box the stand has a nice silky brushed aluminum look with the “Suaoki” logo printed on the bottom right. Both ends curve under the base to act as it’s legs with long slits on each side for cable management. Only down side is that one of struts have 2 countersunk holes which are on the other side. I am not sure with this was a manufacturing error or it’s designed like that. Having holes at all 4 corners would mean it could be easily fixed to the under side of my PC Desk to act as a shelf.
The Monitor stand itself would look great if your invested in the Apple Eco-System. An Air pad or Desktop mac monitor would not look out-of-place sitting on this. But I’m not invested in the Apple Eco-System so my old Bulky, dark grey 15” HP laptop looks a bit out-of-place. But it does it’s job, but since it’s primarily a monitor stand it’s quite narrow so laptops over 15” will overhang a lot.
It’s 440mm (17.32”) Wide, 210mm (8.26”) Deep and stands 44mm (1.73”) High. I can just fit my closed laptop underneath it. You can easily fit a compact Bluetooth keyboard, if it does not have a “number pad” attached, under the stand. As it’s aluminum it’s not that heavy, on the specifications it says it’s 800g but my trusty kitchen scales clocks it at a light 745g. You also get 8 sticky pads, 4 for under the stand and 4 to go on what ever you place on it.
I’m using it to sit my laptop & Cooler on. This gives me enough room to store a couple of aA4 pads and pens with room to spare. The desk is very small and the extra space is useful. So all my notes and pads can be safely stored under the laptop.
I like the “Suaoki Monitor Stand”. The quality is good, and being a single sheet the edges are a bit rough but not sharp. (If worried a quick rub with a fine grade sheet of sandpaper will rounds things off.) It is good value for money it will last a long time and easily outlast any laptop or monitor you are using. so it will pay for itself in the years to come.
